Chipped Beef on a Shingle

Ingredients

  • 4 oz (115 g) dried beef, thinly sliced and chopped
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cup milk
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper (more if you're bold)
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • 4 slices bread, toasted

Steps

  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped dried beef and cook 1–2 minutes to warm it up.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the beef and stir for 1 minute to form a roux.
  4. Slowly whisk in milk until smooth.
  5. Cook 3–5 minutes until the gravy thickens, stirring occasionally.
  6. Season with plenty of black pepper and salt if needed.
  7. Divide toast among plates and spoon the beef gravy over the top.
  8. Serve immediately.
