Ingredients

  • 3 cup cooked chicken, diced or shredded
  • 3 cup broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (optional, for topping)

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Steam or microwave broccoli until just tender; set aside.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in chicken broth and milk until smooth and thickened, about 3–4 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and whisk in sour cream, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  6. Stir half of the cheese into the sauce until slightly melted.
  7. In a large bowl, combine chicken, broccoli, and sauce; mix gently.
  8. Pour into a greased baking dish.
  9. Sprinkle remaining cheese over the top. If using breadcrumbs, mix them with melted butter and sprinkle over the cheese.
  10. Bake 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving.
