
Lebanese Meat Pie (Sfeehas)
Ingredients
- For the dough:
- 3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2.25 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm water
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- For the filling:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or lamb
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp pine nuts (optional)
- 1 tsp ground allspice
- 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 0.25 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
Steps
- In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture and olive oil; knead 8–10 minutes until smooth.
- Cover dough and let rise 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook 3–4 minutes until soft.
- Add garlic and ground meat; cook until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in pine nuts, allspice, cinnamon, salt, pepper, and parsley. Let filling cool.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Divide dough into small balls and roll each into a 4–5 inch circle.
- Place a spoonful of meat filling in the center of each circle.
- Fold edges up and pinch three sides together to form a triangle.
- Arrange on a baking sheet and bake 15–18 minutes until lightly golden.
- Serve warm.
